Haslam Faculty, Staff Give in Record Numbers to Big Orange Family Campaign

March 31, 2017

The fourth annual Big Orange Family Campaign was the Haslam College of Business’ most successful to date. Almost 99 percent of the college’s faculty and staff donated back to the university during this campus-wide initiative.

“This is an incredible testament to how the faculty and staff feel about the Haslam College of Business,” said Steve Mangum, dean and Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair. “Our faculty and staff understand the importance private support plays in the success of the college.”

The Big Orange Family Campaign is a four-week effort encouraging internal giving. Proceeds from the campaign support the beneficiary of the donor’s choosing across the various departments, programs and scholarships within the Haslam College of Business and the University of Tennessee.

“We developed the Big Orange Family Campaign to create a stronger culture of philanthropy among faculty and staff,” said Chip Bryant, interim vice chancellor of development and alumni affairs. “Through this campaign we have been able to showcase the effects of philanthropy to both internal and external constituents.”

Haslam had, by far, the highest giving rate of any college on campus. The Big Orange Family Campaign elicited 91 percent participation from Haslam employees its first year, 95 percent in 2015 and 97 percent last year. The campus-wide average participation rate was 52 percent this year.

Joan Snodderly led the internal effort with the help of co-chair Brenda Carlisle. The rest of the leadership team included Kerry Roehr, Lois Welch, Suzan Murphy, Ken Baker, Debbie Mackey, Cindy Raines, Charlie Cwiek, Melissa Stefanini and Amy Anderson.
