UT Management & Entrepreneurship Professor Named to Elite Scholars Group

March 16, 2020

Melissa Cardon, Nestlé Endowed Professor of Business Administration in the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been nominated to the 21st Century Entrepreneurship Research Fellows, a select group of academics devoted to furthering the study of entrepreneurship.

The induction ceremony will take place at the 2020 Academy of Management Conference, scheduled for August 7-11 in Vancouver, Canada. Each year, current members make nominations to the group. They advocate for particular scholars based on their research record and leadership in the field of entrepreneurship.

Candida Brush, a current fellow in the group and distinguished professor of entrepreneurship and vice provost of global entrepreneurial leadership at Babson College, termed Cardon’s accomplishments and contributions to the field of entrepreneurship significant.

Cardon called it a privilege to be nominated to the group. “It is an honor to be invited to join this distinguished group of scholars dedicated to the pursuit of entrepreneurship research,” she said.

The Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers founded the 21st Century Entrepreneurship Research Fellows in 2001 to foster the cause of entrepreneurship research throughout the world. It does so by identifying leading-edge research issues, sharing best practices to promote high-quality research, conducting notable research initiatives that demonstrate the highest levels of scholarship and bolstering the value and prestige of entrepreneurship journals.

Anne Smith, King and Judy Rogers Professor in Business and head of the Department of Management & Entrepreneurship at Haslam, credited Cardon’s nomination to her outstanding work in the field.

“Professor Cardon’s induction into this esteemed group of scholars is a tribute to the excellence of her research and her stature in the field of entrepreneurship,” Smith said.

Smith said Cardon’s membership will help the department facilitate more in-depth research on innovative subjects in entrepreneurship.
