Anne Smith is the King & Judy Rogers Professor of Business, Management & Entrepreneurship Department with the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is also William E. & Pamela R. Lee Faculty Fellow. She previously served as department head for seven years. Her teaching focuses on why organizations succeed, become stagnate and/or fail. In research, she focuses on the practice of qualitative research, specifically data analysis of interviews and photographs. Her teaching has included how organizations succeed and fail, with a particular interest in the emergence of the U.S. opioid crisis. She also currently serves as an associate editor (methods) at the Academy of Management Journal THROUGH JULY 2025. Her research has been published in many management and organizational journals, such as Organization Science, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT, Journal of Applied Behavioral Science and Journal of Management Inquiry.
