February 22, 2023

Amy Cathey has been named associate dean for Graduate and Executive Education, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Haslam College of Business announced last week. She succeeds Bruce Behn, who recently accepted university‑wide responsibilities for UT’s online programming partnership with Arizona State University.

Cathey will oversee Haslam’s growing portfolio of master’s programs, including MBA and executive MBA programs, specialty master’s programs and nondegree executive education programs. These programs include traditional, hybrid and fully online graduate degree and certificate programs, including the recently launched Online MBA.

In accepting this role, Cathey leaves her position as executive director of business development for Haslam’s graduate and executive education programs, in which she was responsible for branding, ranking and recruiting activities across the program portfolio.

Stephen L. Mangum, dean and Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair at Haslam, said Cathey’s previous experience would serve Haslam well as its student population, programming and facilities continue to grow.

“As the Haslam College of Business continues to expand its graduate and executive education offerings in response to changing student and societal needs, Amy’s deep knowledge of industry trends, the higher education landscape and commitment to advancement and innovation are important assets,” Mangum said. “We look forward to a continuation of great accomplishments in through her efforts.”

Cathey is a distinguished lecturer and core faculty member in the Executive MBA for Strategic Leadership, Executive MBA for Healthcare Leadership and Physician Executive MBA programs. Her previous experience with Haslam also includes serving as executive director of the full-time MBA program, director of the executive MBA program and interim executive director for executive education programs. In addition, she has taught undergraduate courses, full-time MBA courses, executive MBA courses and non-degree executive education programs.

Before joining the college, Cathey was a consultant, working with organizations in the consumer-packaged goods, consumer durables, logistics, manufacturing, financial services, technology, healthcare, business services, nonprofit foundation and higher education industries. A Knoxville native, she earned her bachelor’s in political science and economics, as well as her MBA and Ph.D. in marketing, from UT.

“To be chosen to serve as associate dean for Haslam’s graduate and executive education programs is an incredible honor,” Cathey said. “Haslam offers a tremendous set of top-ranked master’s and non-degree programs delivered by a world-class faculty and staff. I look forward to collaborating with them as we continue to respond to the needs of industry and deliver transformative experiences for our students and organizational partners.”
