Micheletto Honored with Teaching Fellowship

March 6, 2024

Melinda Micheletto, senior lecturer of marketing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Haslam College of Business, is the 2023-2024 winner of the Lee and Allison Herring Endowed Teaching Fellowship in Marketing.

Micheletto, who holds a Ph.D. in marketing from UT, joined the Haslam faculty in 2017. Her teaching areas include consumer behavior topics at the undergraduate level and qualitative marketing insights at the graduate level.

Alex Zablah, head of Haslam’s Department of Marketing, says Micheletto embodies the level of teaching excellence the fellowship aims to reward.

“Dr. Micheletto sets very high expectations of her students and dedicates enormous time and effort to ensuring that each and every student can meet those expectations,” Zablah says. “She is a highly dynamic instructor, be it in small or large classes, online or in person, which makes her class sessions incredibly engaging. We are incredibly fortunate to have her on our faculty, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this special recognition.”

Ongoing Support for Marketing Faculty

Allison Herring (HCB, ‘19) was a marketing major and member of the Lady Vols golf team. Her mother, Lee, also has a marketing degree. The Herring family established an endowment for the teaching fellowship in 2020 to give back to Haslam and honor outstanding faculty in the college’s marketing department.

Micheletto says, “I am extremely honored to receive the prestigious Lee and Allison Herring Endowed Teaching Fellowship. Receiving this award is a significant milestone in my journey as a professor. I am inspired to continue to make a positive impact on the lives of my students and further contribute to the Department of Marketing and the Haslam College of Business. This award is particularly meaningful as I’ve gotten to know Lee and Allison even better since teaching Allison in the Consumer Behavior class. It’s heartwarming to see that Allison’s Haslam experience was so rewarding that she chooses to pay it forward for current and future students.”

In early 2024, the Herring family committed additional support for the college, establishing the Lee and Allison Herring Endowed Research Award in Marketing. The new honor will be presented annually starting later this year.
